Saturday 4th August, 7.30pm
The Royal Courts East and West
Lincoln Drill Hall
Music of a strange kind, yet the sound was pleasant and delightful was how Sir Francis Drake described his first brush with the sound of the Gamelan in 1580. Tonight’s concert sets Elizabethan music alongside Malay gamelan music to give us a unique opportunity to step back in time and imagine how the two cultures reacted to each other’s music. Gamelan Nusantara, the only group playing Malay gamelan in the West, team up with early music ensemble, Cantiones Renovatae in a ground-breaking programme contrasting music from the East and the West.
Malaysia day is August 31st and 2007 marks 50 years of independence.
Tickets £10 (£9 concessions) (£1 off if purchased with a Workshop ticket)
